ASP Eyitere Joseph, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, has been arrested for extorting N50,000 from a member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Lagos’ Meiran area.
The arrest of the police officer assigned to the Meiran division came after a video of him demanding money from a Youth Corps member went viral on social media.
The victim was accused of driving without a license and was told he needed to pay N50,000 before he could leave.
However, following ASP Joseph’s arrest, the N50,000 was recovered and refunded to the victim.
As of yesterday, ASP Joseph was being questioned at the Lagos State Police Command’s Provost unit. According to Vanguard, he was detained for the offense of unprofessional conduct.
CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations officer, confirmed the arrest of the policeman on his verified Twitter handle, and said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the division was also warned to monitor the activities of his men.
