The preliminary investigation into the death of Sylvester Oromoni Junior, a 12-year-old Dowen College, Lekki student who was allegedly beaten to death, may have been completed by the Lagos State Police Command.

The Sunday Sun has learned that the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Maroko, CSP Ganiyu Raji, to investigate the circumstances surrounding Sylvester’s death, which occurred a few days ago.

It was previously reported that a 12-year-old Dowen College, Lekki, student was allegedly beaten by five senior students for refusing to join their cult group.

Earlier, the college principal, Mrs. Adebisi Layiwola, issued a statement in which she denied that Sylvester died as a result of a beating by some students and instead died as a result of injuries sustained while playing football.

However, the Lagos State Government closed the school indefinitely on Friday.

When contacted, Lagos PPRO CSP Ajisebutu stated that the death of the Dowen College student is being investigated and that the commissioner of police has directed the Maroko DPO to look into the incident.

His words: “Just give us some time, the CP will make the outcome of the investigation public. You know his death is now a national issue. The CP will talk about the update soon.”

Mrs. Folasade Adefiayo, the Lagos State Commissioner for Education, told News men that the case is a criminal matter that is being handled by the appropriate agency.

Adefiayo said: “I have never heard where a ministry investigates criminal case. We have referred the incident to the appropriate quarters to do the needful.”
