Some ad hoc workers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have refused to work less than two weeks to the governorship election in Anambra State on November 6.

Bus drivers, who are generally utilized to transport materials to other locations, have also declined to participate in the exercise.

The threat from outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, was said to be the reason.

According to a report on the Nation Newspaper, a senior staff member of the commission confirmed it. The source said: “That is our situation now. Nothing seems to be working for us in this election because no one wants to lose his or her life because of IPOB.

“It is a big challenge facing us. Many of the ad hoc workers already recruited are throwing in the towel because of the IPOB threats; even the drivers, who we always use to distribute the materials.”

“All of them contacted, told us they are not interested. So, our hands are tied. These people called IPOB have really dealt with the people of the Southeast.

Lol“If nothing is done urgently, the election we’ve been preparing for, for so long a time may not hold; even if it holds, who is prepared to risk his or her life to come out?”

It was discovered that the drivers and the majority of the ad hoc workers who had already been hired indicated they were no longer interested in the job because they were afraid for their lives.

INEC declared in May and early June that the number of polling units in Anambra State had been increased from 4,608 to 5,720.

Furthermore, the commission stated that the election will require approximately 10,000 ad hoc employees to be successful.

IPOB issued a statement a few days ago through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, stating that if its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is not released by November 4, it will proclaim another sit-in in Igbo land between November 5 and 10.

Moreso, Governor Willie Obiano had guaranteed that nothing would derail the November 6 election.

Obiano addressed at Awka, the state capital, through his Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba.
