In a tweet, the IT genius stated that a GoFundMe account would be used to fund the presidential candidate, whom many Nigerian millennials believe is capable of leading the country out of its current economic difficulties.

This comes a day after the Financial Times, a London-based journal, estimated that voting a president in Nigeria would cost $2 billion, or N1 trillion.

Mr. Onigbinde noted that the crowdfunding would level the financial playing field for Mr. Obi, who will be competing against billionaires like Bola Tinubu and Orji Uzor Kalu.

“A N10bn GoFundMe for Peter Obi will be great starter for those who want crowdsource Nigeria’s next leader. This will change the dynamics with the space hijacked by moneybags,” tweeted the BudgIT boss.

Mr. Onigbinde’s post received over a thousand retweets as many young people backed Mr. Obi. While some users have already begun to offer ways for the presidential candidate to reach out to the grassroots for his campaign, others are curious about his strategy for dealing with rising prices and the country’s economic downturn.
