JOSÉ VÍCTOR DOS SANTOS PESEIRO ANNOUNCED NEW NIGERIA SUPER EAGLES COACH

The Nigeria Football Federation has named Jose Peseiro, a Portugueseman, as the Super Eagles’ head coach.

The Nigeria Football Federation announced this on Wednesday following its National Executive Council meeting.

In a communique released on the official Facebook page of the NFF, they revealed that Peseiro is expected to attend the upcoming 2022 African Cup of Nations next month in Cameroon, he will take full command of the team after the AFCON concludes on February 6, 2022.

A part of the Communique reads “After careful consideration of a memo presented by Chairman of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee, the Executive Committee endorsed a proposal for the appointment of Mr. Jose Peseiro as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, following the end to the relationship with Mr Gernot Rohr,”.

The Portuguese appointment comes 17 days after Franco-German tactician Gernot Rohr was fired as Super Eagles coach.

61-year-old Peseiro spent his first eight years as a manager in the Portuguese football league’s third and fourth tiers, beginning as a player-coach at his previous club.

He was appointed to C.D. Nacional in the summer of 1999, and he was instrumental in the club’s promotion to the Primeira Liga in just three seasons. In 2002 and 2003, he led the team to an 11th-place finish in the final.

Until August 2021, he was the coach of the Venezuela National Team. He reportedly resigned having not been paid for over a year amidst the South American country’s economic crisis.
