Osimhen plays well as Nigeria beats Liberia in Morocco

The Super Eagles defeated Liberia 2-0 in their fifth Group C game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Saturday at Grand Stade de Tangier in Tangier, Morocco.

The Eagles won thanks to goals from Victor Osimhen and Ahmed Musa, both from the penalty spot.

In the match monitored on NFF tv, the Super Eagles defeated Liberia 2-0 in their fifth Group C game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Saturday at Grand Stade de Tangier in Tangier, Morocco.

The Eagles won thanks to goals from Victor Osimhen and Ahmed Musa, both from the penalty spot.

In the other game in the group, Cape Verde rallied from a goal down to defeat Central African Republic 2-1 and remain in contention.

As a result of the results, the Eagles maintain their lead with 12 points, while Cape Verde falls to second with 10 points.

Osimhen had the first chance for the Eagles in the fourth minute, but he was flagged offside.

Victor Osimhen scored the Eagles’ first goal from the penalty spot in the 15th minute after Iheanacho was fouled inside the box by Lone Star goalkeeper Boison Wynney De Souza.

On the 26th minute, Liberia was awarded a freekick in a dangerous area, but the effort failed to trouble Maduka Okoye in goal.

Only three minutes later, Jamilu Collins appeared to have doubled the Eagles’ lead but was flagged for offside.Osimhen had a good chance to make it 2-0 in the 32nd minute, but his effort went over the bar.

The home team pressed for an equalizer but were denied by good defending by Leon Balogun.

The Eagles nearly doubled their lead just one minute into the second half, but Osimhen’s chance went wide.

Moses Simon overhit an intended pass for Osimhen, who was in a good position to score, in the 50th minute.

The Eagles made their first substitution of the game, with Chidera Ejuke replacing Alex Iwobi.

Chidozie Awaziem attempted a shot outside the 18-yard box in the 73rd minute, but it went over the crossbar.

Musa scored from the penalty spot after the Liberian goalkeeper fouled Osimhen in the 90th minute, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles will play Cape Verde at Teslim Balogun Stadium on Tuesday and will need only a point to qualify, whereas the visitors will need an outright win.
