Omicron: Canada Issues Travel Ban On Nigeria, Other Countries.

Nigerians and people from at least nine other African countries have been barred from entering Canada.

According to Canadian authorities, the new travel ban is intended to reduce the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

On Tuesday, December 30, the announcement was made.South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Nigeria, Malawi, and Egypt are also affected by the travel ban.

Foreign nationals who have visited these countries in the previous 14 days will be temporarily barred from entering Canada, according to Canadian Transport Minister Omar Alghabra.

Alghabra also stated that Canadians and permanent residents who have visited the ten countries, even if fully vaccinated, must be tested before entering Canada.

This comes as the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the discovery of two cases of Omicron variant in the country.
