According to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, if the anti-grazing bill is signed into law in Lagos State, a cow may cost up to N2 million.

On Wednesday, the Zonal Secretary of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the South West spoke during a one-day public hearing on the anti-open grazing bill organized by the state House of Assembly.

Reports said the Lagos State House of Assembly sent the bill on open grazing to the agriculture committee on Monday after it passed second reading.

It was entitled, “A bill for a law to Prohibit Open Cattle Grazing In Lagos State, the Trespass of Cattle Land And For Other Connected Purposes”.

During the public hearing, Usman requested assistance from the state government, emphasizing that ranching is more expensive than open grazing.

Usman, who agreed that there were some criminally motivated herders, contended that growing a cow in one region might raise the price of a cow to as much as N2pmillion.

He also begged the government to subsidize the cost of keeping livestock in a single location.

He also lobbied for legislation to encourage the development of farm estates around the state.
