We Have Spent More than ₦2 billion on Free Feeding for Students in Adamawa

Under the National Home-Grown School Meals Programme, the Federal Government (FG) has spent more than N2 billion on free feeding for students in Adamawa (NHGSFP).

The data was provided by Hajia Sadiya Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, during the handover of an additional 50,000 branded quality feeding utensils to the Adamawa Government on Saturday in Yola.

Farouq stated this through Dr. Umar Bindir, National Coordinator, Social Investment Programme.

NHGSFP was one of the four clusters under the Social Investment Programme (NSIP).

She explained that the Federal Government spent a total of ₦226 million every month on the Adamawa school food program.She stated that more than nine million students had registered and were benefiting from the program around the country.

“Over ₦2 billion expended by the Federal Government in Adamawa, under the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP).

“I m here today, to represent Mr President, to hand over an additional 50,000 branded quality feeding utensils to the Adamawa State Government, for use in feeding pupils under the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP).

“So far, the NHGSFP has recorded over nine million pupils that are being fed by over 100,000 cooks/vendors nationwide,” Sadiya said.According to the minister, the Programme, launched in 2016, is well grounded in Adamawa and that so far, 1,286 schools have been enrolled, with 162,782 children being fed, using 2,417 cooks/vendors.

She explained that 182,000 utensils had already been supplied in Adamawa, and that Saturday’s event was a continuation of one of the program’s various strategic goals targeted at assuring students’ sanitation and safety while having free meals.

Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, who was represented by Mr. Elijah Tumba, Commissioner for Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Re-settlement, praised the Federal Government for the commendable initiative in his presentation.

According to Fintiri, the feeding program increased the number of students enrolled in schools across the state, based on available data.

The governor stated that his administration is always willing to collaborate with the federal government.
