Victor Osimhen Scores as Napoli Returns to The Top.

Napoli reclaimed first place in Serie A with a 4-0 win over Sampdoria on Thursday, their fifth consecutive league victory, thanks to in-form striker Victor Osimhen’s two goals.

Luciano Spalletti’s side leads Inter Milan and AC Milan by two points with a perfect 15-point record, scoring 14 goals and conceding two in five games.

Osimhen’s cushioned volley put the visitors ahead after 10 minutes at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, before David Ospina made two excellent saves to deny Sampdoria an equalizer.

Before the halftime, an arrowed Fabian Ruiz strike put Napoli ahead, and explosive scores from Osimhen and Piotr Zielinski sealed the onslaught.

Osimhen, who had several chances to score a hat-trick, increased his total to five goals in five games in all competitions as the Partenopei made an early statement about their title prospects.

Spalletti commented after the game, “It was a fantastic outcome today, but Sampdoria caused us issues in the first half.”

“Where we deserve credit is for hanging in there, resisting the pressure and then finishing our chances well.

“Ospina did really well in goal during the first half, as Sampdoria pounced on us from the start, but that left huge gaps behind their defence, and in those situations Osimhen is devastating.

“When the game is not going well, you have to try to get something from the individuals and that’s what we did.”
