Reports say two people were killed after a renewed clash between rival cult groups in Bonny, Bonny Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The names of the gangs could not be determined at the time of filing this report, but residents of the area demanded police intervention due to an increase in cult attacks, claiming they live in fear.

The suspected cultist shot indiscriminately, shattering the Island’s peace as residents stayed indoors to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

Mr. Christopher Pepple, a representative of Concerned Indigenes of Bonny, told reporters that hardly a week goes by without an incident of cult attacks being recorded, even as he blamed security agencies for the increase in cult-related activities.

“The police authorities in Bonny are not doing enough to protect the lives and property of the people of Bonny,” he stated and expressed fears that the people might not be able to celebrate this year’s Christmas in Bonny LGA if nothing was done to curb the trend.
