Gunmen Kill Akunyili in Anambra.

Dr. Chike Akunyili, widower of the late Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Dora Akunyili, has been assassinated by gunmen in Nkpor, Anambra State’s Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to unconfirmed accounts, seven other people were killed in the incident.

The Punch reports that the event occurred on Monday evening.

Dr. Akunyili was said to be returning from Onitsha, where he had gone to acquire a posthumous award of excellence for his late wife, when he was shot and killed by hoodlums at Nkpor.

The hoodlums were reportedly yelling, “No election in Anambra in November.”
