President Mohammadu Buhari has assured the people of Niger Delta that he would constitute the board of the NDDC soon. The president said the board would be constituted as soon as the forensic audit report is submitted and accepted.
The president said this on his official handle on Koo. The president stated that the NDDC had been bedeviled by so much mismanagement in the past, which is what gave rise to the audit in the first place.
He said ‘Based on the mismanagement that had previously bedeviled the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), a forensic audit was set up and the result is expected by the end of July, 2021″.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had, in 2019, ordered a forensic audit of the NDDC’s operations, which uncovered allegations of mismanagement of funds.
Kemebradikumoo Pondei, acting managing director of the commission at the time, was eventually sacked, and in December 2020, the president appointed Effiong Akwa as new head of the agency. However, a new board is yet to be constituted for the commission, following the dissolution of the previous one in January 2020.
There has been calls from several quarters asking the president to constitute the board of the NDDC. Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo, had said he giving the federal government until the end of June 2021 to constitute the board of the NDDC.
He said he “reluctantly” agreed to allow the process of constituting a board for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) till the end of June.
Moreso, the House of Representatives, had on Thursday the 4th of June, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to constitute the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The resolution by the lawmakers come in the wake of the ultimatum issued to the federal government by Government Ekpemupolo.
