Nigeria @61; S/East Complies With IPOB’s Independence Day Sit–at–Home Order

Yesterday’s sit–at–home order issued by the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was observed in most sections of the South East, with cities in the zone abandoned.

IPOB declared a sympathy Sit-At-Home for people from the Southeast not to participate in Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations, claiming that there was nothing to celebrate.

Apart from the event in Oboama Nguru, Aboh Mbaise, Imo State, where sit-at-home enforcers burned to death a commercial bus driver, people simply stayed at home.

A similar occurrence occurred on August 9, 2021, when four buses were burned and three people were killed during the first sit-in.

The Vanguard reported that the L300 Mitsubishi bus was on its way from Owerri to Umuahia with some passengers on board when it was stopped by the enforcers. Enforcers chased the passengers away before setting the bus on fire with the bus with the driver inside.

The eye witness said: “The bus was heading towards Umuahia from Owerri. They stopped the bus at Ama Well, Oboama Nguru in Abo Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, shot sporadically, chased away the passengers and set the driver and the bus ablaze. “It was terrible and I wonder when this whole thing will end. The way people are being killed in South East is worrisome”.

Unlike in the past, most residents did not attempt to leave their homes, thereby halting economic activity. Owerri, Umuahia, Aba, Onitsha, Enugu, Awka and Abakaliki, Okigwe, Orlu, and Nnewi streets were completely deserted.

We also gathered that all the burial ceremonies in the State scheduled for Friday, had been forced to be cancelled by the families.
