Man Jailed For Three Years for Stealing N40,000 Phone.

Arowolo Friday, age 26, was found guilty of stealing a cellphone worth N40,000 and was given a three-year prison sentence by a magistrate’s court in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

After being found guilty of the crime and confessing to three counts, some of which had the potential to be theft and public disturbance, Arowolo received a prison sentence.

The defendant allegedly stole an Itel phone valued around N40,000 from Mrs. Joy Oladokun at a guest home in Akinjagunla, Ore in the Ore Magisterial District and used it for his personal purposes, according to the prosecutor, James Usifo.

Sections 390 (9), and 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006, were violated by the offences.

Usifo stated that the case did not require proof while acknowledging the defendant’s admission of guilt.

The defendant, who was not being represented by counsel, pleaded guilty after hearing the accusation.

In his decision, Magistrate O. Ogunfuyi sentenced the defendant to a maximum of N25,000 in fines and a year in jail on each count.
