A newly assigned Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari local government area has been kidnapped.
According to sources who confirmed the incident to journalists on condition of anonymity, the DPO was abducted along the notorious Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway around 9 a.m. on Monday on his way to his new place of assignment.
Although the Kaduna State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the development, it was unclear whether the police officer was traveling alone in the vehicle when he was abducted.
Remember that the Birnin Gwari local government area of the state has recently been in the news for various terrorist attacks and abductions, and that on Sunday, a terrorist group known as Ansaru issued a statement prohibiting political activities in some communities of the local government area.
Meanwhile, when contacted on his mobile phone for comment, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Kaduna Command, DSP Mohammed Jalige, did not pick up or return calls placed to his known mobile line at the time of filing this report.
