Anambra Election; Senator Ngige asks INEC To Extend Voting Period.

Dr Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, had yet to vote as at 3 p.m. due to a failure of the Biomodal Voter Accreditation System, or BVAS.

Due to a machine problem, the minister has been waiting for hours at the Nkwo-Ide Alor polling unit in Idemili South Local Government Area.

Ngige was unable to vote at Polling Unit 010, Nkwo-Ide, Alor Ward One, in Anambra State’s Idemili South Local Government Area.

He acknowledged his willingness to vote but voiced disappointment that the system had failed. He estimated that the failure rate of accrediting machines in his area was greater than 30%.

As he walked back to his house from the Polling Station, Ngige requested that INEC extend the voting period until around 5 p.m. to compensate for the machine failure.

The minister also instructed INEC to test their equipment at least a week before the election to ensure it is operational. Several voters could not be accredited to vote at the polling stations.

Issues relating to malfunctioning of election equipment were not only recorded in the polling unit of the Senator. Reports suggest that similar complaints were also recorded in the polling unit of the Candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Prof. Charles Soludo.
