Anamabra Election; Senator Denied Access to Ihiala L.G.A Secretariat

Today is the day slated for the supplementary election for the Anambra Governorship race.

The decision to hold the additional election in local government came after the State Collation/Returning Officer suspended the collation of results in the governorship election on Monday.

While results were being compiled from 20 of the 21 local government areas, the process was halted because elections could not be held in Ihiala LGA owing to violence.

Earlier today, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had begun the deployment of election materials and ad-hoc employees from the Ihiala Local Government Secretariat in Anambra State to the various polling stations where a supplementary election is set to take place today.

The Senator Victor Umeh, the former national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and the party’s agent for the governorship election, was reportedly turned back by security operatives at the Ihiala local government Secretariat.

The Vanguard reports that Umeh, who arrived at the secretariat around 10:30 a.m. with some party members, was turned back by a senior military officer.

Umeh claimed that he was at the secretariat to oversee the distribution of goods and ensure that everything went smoothly.

The former congressman was told by the military officer that he had no business being at the secretariat because he was simply the state agent at the collation center.
